What are the benefits of joining a karate program?

Students learn a number of benefits in our program. Discipline, self confidence, self esteem, confidence, and improved academic standing are just a few of the many benefits students achieve. In addition other benefits accomplished through our training include:
Role Model Development

Students in our program develop social skills with other students who are interested in achieving the same goals. Since parents are concerned about role models, you can be assured that all students here at American Martial Arts Academy are encouraged and supported by their parents as well. During the course of your child’s study here, you will meet them and feel comfortable regarding your child’s social interaction with other students. You’ll be happy to know that our instructors here at American Martial Arts Academy maintain a strict code of ethics and set exemplary behavior themselves.
Academic Development

Students academic progress is monitored here at American Martial Arts Academy. Students are required to turn in a copy of their report card to the school. We work closely with all school systems and parents in an effort to help students achieve better grades. American Martial Arts Academy is proud to have its own honor roll. Students who achieve honor roll status with us are rewarded through various incentive programs offered by the school.

Personal Development

By placing students in the right environment, their true achievement potential can be realized. Our belt promotion curriculum combines goal orientation along with either learning dynamics to help develop their character. Statistics show that students who feel good about themselves, lead healthier happier lives. This process happens repeatedly through belt promotions and recognition.

Character Development

Our students learn values and attributes related to strong moral character. Qualities make up character. Our students learn discipline, courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self control, and indomitable spirit. These are the five tenets of Tang Soo Do. We focus on the development of these qualities repetitively. Without question, students must learn these fundamental qualities early on in life in order to develop strong values. A well rounded child will ultimately have development in all of these areas.

Physical Development

A critical component to the development of any child. Martial Arts is an activity which also enhances physical development. Strength, coordination, flexibility, and balance are just a few of the benefits they will achieve. Most important of which is the art of self defense, in which the student will become confident of their own physical ability. This will make him/her an unlikely target for aggressive or “bully” type children. It is very important that a child feel secure with their own natural survival and defense instincts.

What are the eligibility requirements?

Students ages 4 and up are eligible. Each and every student (along with parents) must be evaluated before enrollment consideration. This evaluation takes into consideration a number of factors before establishing eligibility. The students attention skills, listening skills, and enthusiasm are taken into consideration. In addition, parental enthusiasm and support are also considered. It is important to note, that martial arts training here at American Martial Arts Academy is a personal development program that teaches life skill development. Therefore, it is not for everyone. How often do classes meet?

Students have classes available 3 to 5 times per week. This schedule creates a repetition pattern consistent with our learning requirements to complete the curriculum. Class times are 30 minutes to 1 hour in length. In addition, private tutoring is available for students who miss class time or who need extra help. This instruction is offered at no additional charge to our students.

Can you accommodate children with learning challenges?

Behavioral specialists, as well as child psychologists, agree that Martial Arts programs help the development of children with ADD or ADHD as well as other behavioral challenges. Because children are required to pay close attention to the program in order to comprehend, these learning challenges are met head on by ongoing training. Is parental involvement necessary?

How do I know if my child is ready?

We will be able to determine the child’s eligibility through our evaluation process. Keep in mind 90% of their success will be relative to your support and determination about the program. What is important to you will be important to the child.

How large are the classes?

The average size of each class is 15-20 students.

How many classes per week should I attend?
A: We recommend two classes per week, plus a certain amount of practice time in between classes as the perfect level of training. This allows the student time to work on material between classes and become proficient before new concepts are introduced.

Will there be other beginners in my class?
A: At American Martial Arts Academy, all students are grouped by age and by rank. In this way, you will be in a class with students at your age and skill level. In addition we will also assign you a “buddy” so you can quickly learn about the school from an existing student.

Will the American Martial Arts Academy program make my child overly aggressive?

A: At American Martial Arts Academy, children are taught that the martial arts are not to be used in aggression, but rather to defend oneself in problematic situations. Aggressive behavior is channeled into assertiveness to increase the child’s self esteem, increase self discipline and build character. Our program also helps the shy child to develop self confidence and become more assertive.

Will my classes be safe?

A: Absolutely. All classes taught at American Martial Arts Academy are strictly monitored to ensure complete safety.
